![]() I tend to argue much more strongly in the "no, their powers do not ever get taken away" camp, but that's only because I'm trying to push back against the misconception. The majority of pacts aren't even actually pacts, warlock just has a lot of the language associated with it tied to that classic "sold soul to devil for power" trope even when that trope isn't accurate any more. A cleric style relationship is possible it's just not the default and not very common. Now, shunned and with little power left, the fallen exile hides and gives it's power to those who want to help it. This, and the fact he ran from his duties as a celestial body, made other stars angry at them and destroyed the loved mortal. I was thinking in some king of revenge or another warlock coming for him in angrily as he abandoned their master, but would love some ideas of what and how to work with this! Also important to note that in my adventure the fallen exile messes with the warlock's memories and gaslighted them to think they saved him, but it didn't actually happen.įor those who don't know, the fallen exile was an old star that liked to travel through space and discover new things and places, but when they came into our world, he fell in love with a mortal. The thing is I don't know what his old patron could do to him now. All monsters, all the time!Ī player of mine is a warlock from the fallen exile patron (homebrew patron from the compendium of forgotten secrets), and lately he broke his connection with it in exchange for another who could offer him power more directly. Of course, like many things in the past, it was blamed on demons and hostile spirits or witchcraft. It's frequently associated with a sensation of "weight upon the chest" in many cultures, along with difficulty breathing. Apparently, this is commonly caused by high stress, anxiety, and similar ailments interfering with proper sleeping patterns. For those of you who are unfamiliar with the sensation, imagine being awake, but completely unable to move your body. They're commonly associated with fantastical powers like teleportation, shadow-walking, and alternative realms, but one thing I really wanted to focus on was sleep paralysis. I've always been a dog person, I'll admit, but I wanted to focus on the mythological aspects of cats in this patron as I grew and expanded this beyond the generic weird darkness cat idea.
